First Progress Update
Well, it's been a touch over 2 months since I posted the first build of Godspawn.
I guess I should probably give an update on where things are at for anyone curious. TLDR at the end if you cbf reading.
First off - Thank you to everyone who has played my game so far. I honestly wasn't sure anyone would even give it a look, but a couple hundred downloads is certainly very heartening to see. I hope you've all enjoyed what's there, and of course, any feedback is always welcomed - critique or otherwise. I'm always looking to improve my craft after all.
As for what's been happening with development - the summary is that I've been working on underlying system stuff for the long term development of the game (particularly Combat), and don't have any new content for the progression of the main game completed. But hopefully, I should finally be able to get really stuck in to working on making that pretty soon. I have mostly completed a handful of the designs for major characters in the game's story though that are introduced in the next section of the story, so I'm gonna share those so people can at least see some of the work I've been doing.
Basically - over the last 9 weeks:
- I spent 2 weeks fully focused on my Uni degree (assignments and the like)
- 1 week designing characters for the game
- 6 weeks working on properly designing & implementing the games Combat System
I'm now at the point where I'm pretty happy with the results I've achieved. There is absolutely tonne of room for improvement (including at least 2 rather annoying bugs I haven't been able to resolve yet), but I could conceivably spend the next forever just finetuning combat balancing and bug fixing until it was "perfect" and never get around to actually making the game. So I've decided to stop focusing on that now that I have a working system and get back to content development. I've thrown together a little "Combat Testing Realm" for anyone curious to try out the end product for themselves, which I'll be uploading after I've done some playtesting of it myself, just to make sure there's nothing heinously broken that I've overlooked.
That said - I also have a bunch of revisions and changes I want to make to the currently released Prologue section of the game. I don't want to get bogged down just revising released content forever, so I'm going to keep them light, but at least some of them realistically need to be done before I add anything new.
But - all that being said - I am now at the point where I'm ready to start working on making content rather than systems - which should progress much more smoothly now that I've got a completed version of the combat gameplay.
Anyway, thanks for your time if you've chosen to read this. Here's hoping my playtest doesn't show up any major bugs & my revisions end up being pretty quick & painless so that I can get straight into making new content.
TLDR: No new main story stuff done yet, but I have built the first full implementation of the games combat system, which I will be uploading in a separate Beta-test build sometime soon. Now that it's done, I should be able to get way more done on just making content. Here's some teasers for the upcoming main girls introduced in the next section of the story to tide people over.
